As cleanup efforts continue across the panhandle in the aftermath of Hurricane Isaias, Washington County officials want to remind residents of the proper procedures for debris pick up.
Washington County officials say debris should be separated into six different categories: normal household trash, vegetative debris, construction and demolition debris, home appliances, electronics and computers, and household hazardous waste.
Debris should be placed on the sidewalk, ditch, or utility line in front of the house.
Any debris placed in a yard will not be picked up.
If residents do not have a sidewalk or ditch in front of their house, they should place it at the edge of the property near the curb.
Officials say residents should not stack or lean debris on trees, poles, or other structures including fire hydrants and meters. This makes it harder for crews to pick up the debris.
Debris should not block the roadway or storm drains.
